Directions to Vinnaithandi Varuvaya (VTV) climax bench scene spot @ Central Park, NYC

Long since I landed in Jersey City, NJ, one of the things I most desperately wanted to see and take a picture was Vinnaithandi Varuvaya movie’s climax bench scene’s shooting spot at Central Park, New York City where Simbu and Trisha had the classy chat. I'm not a SImbu fan, when I saw VTV movie the first day, I did not like the movie much, many would’ve felt the same way but it slowly started to grow in me (should be the same with many too) and now everyone talks about Karthik & Jessie, Love,  VTV...  This particular climax park bench scene has its own touch,  a calm plae, a cool chat with classy lines. This was one of the awesome scenes in the movie.

So I google’d all ways to find this place hoping someone would’ve blogged, posted, did something to give some information about the park bench, but I did not even get a single clue where this bench is located in the BIG Central Park! After wasting a week with fall season fading away (Oct 2012) and Sandy Superstorm approaching, I decided I will wait no more for it and I myself will figure it out with modern day’s best friend Google.

So I went to youtube.com, played this scene few times and just concentrated on the background. Then I went to Google maps, went in and out of Central park, still no clues. Then I played the entire park bench scene one time, right after the scene, for the song “Anbil avan …” I noticed a big grass ground with softball play area, then with a happy smile I went back to Google maps, but again the park is so BIG that it has 21 softball play areas. L

Then I started to make few guesses, I ruled out the set of play areas towards North Central Park (near 100^th St) since from the scene and song we can notice that the place where Trisha and Simbu sits is circular. So I had to guess from 13 softball play areas, I paid a visit one day and had a look at the first 5 play areas, no luck, the background buildings and trees did not match at all. Then the next day I went to the remaining  8 play areas, while I was approaching  those, I was able to see the background view matching the scene’s view, finally a happy smile started to grow, with the help of background I was able to filter out few more play ares and end with only 3 play areas.

I had the final walk on the walk path besides the play areas, I was able to see the exact background as in the scene. Now I had to locate the bench, from the camera angle the only possible benches was the 3 benches near “Great Lawn Softball Field 6”.

I played the video again in my mobile, with the camera angle and the bent fence behind Simbu (that was a good clue), I finally spotted the bench!!!  I sat there and gave the cam to my friend and asked him to shot me the exact same way as Simbu was sitting. But Trisha place was empty. :P

  

How to get there:

• From anywhere, come to the American Museum of Natural History, New York, NY, you can take the local metro train or the bus to reach.
 
• Get down from train or bus and head into central park, and take West drive (walk path), make sure you walk in the north direction (towards 80+ streets)

• Keep walking, you will cross Delacorte Theater and then you will hit the Softball play areas.
 
• Take a right and enter into the walk path near the play areas.

• Walk towards Softball Field 6, you will see 3 benches which is between Field 6 and Field 8 (look at the map below)
 
• The first bench (from North) is the one!!! You can see thebelow note on it, just for your reference. 

 
 

Sit there, run the classy scene in mind, take pictures, have unlimited memories and enjoy!!!

A mail from Pattu!

Few days back I got a mail from Pattu, my PG classmate @ SSNCE… It was about one of the comical moments of our college days… Drafting as it is from his mail with few touches… Enjoy :)

Subject: Director’s special

It’s about one of the terrific moments of my college days.

We had Human Resource paper in our 3rd year. One ma’am was handling that class for us. Don’t ask her name. On that terrific day, HR was the first hour after lunch. As usual, I took my position in the row before last. With a heavy lunch loaded, I badly needed a nap and was eagerly waiting for our HR mam to assist me out.  

As the wait was growing and my eyes were closing, suddenly to my surprise our management Director entered the class room, “OMG! What on the earth is he doing here?”. I thought someone would tell him that, "Sir this is MCA... MBA class is in the next room". But he didn't wait for our turn, he announced "Hey guys! I will take your HR classes for the remaining academic period". Off course our reaction was “$h!t!!!”

First thing that came to my mind was, "Aathaa magamaayi, indha class mattum enna thoongaama paathukitaa unakku kedaa vetti ponga vakiren thaaye!"

The most terrific class ever started!!!

Director: "Guys! Human Resource is a very easy paper, but it's very difficult to understand!"

“Ennayyaa sollura... vandhu ukaandhadhu oru kuthamaa…”

Director: "HR takes major part in every organization………………………………………."

“Oh! What is this... Why do i feel so drowsy ? No. I wont sleep...”

Director: "Every part in organization is HR of Major... "

“No no… I'm not sleeping.”

Major... What I'm coming to say is… Naan enna solla varennaa…"

Hey, What is this,  HR Class is over or what? Why Major Sundarrajan is standing in front of the class?  Who is that lady entering the class room. Is that our HR mam? No no. It's Trisha. I can't believe this.. Is this real? I pinched myself & heard an 'Ah!!!' Wow! This is real only.

Oh no! Trisha is dancing with Major. Terrific thing I have ever seen in my life. If I have a gun, I’ll shoot him down & I’ll start dancing with Trisha… What is that? Why major is aiming the gun at me? Did he read my mind?

Oops.. Who is pinching my hand?

I opened my eyes.  It wasn't Major's gun, it was Director's hand. He was asking me something & I was in an inebriated state & my friend's pinch is what woke me up. (That would have been a revenge for the one he got from me when I was in my dream :P)

Now I could hear Director's question clearly. "What is the spelling of Appraisal?" What??? Am I sitting in second standard class? Or is this still a dream?

               

No, it is real only, everyone are looking at me with some expectation, may be they are also expecting the answer from me. Then Director asked again , "Tell me man, what is the spelling of Appraisal?".

I started, “A p p r i  a ...”

That’s all the whole class busted into laughter. “ada paavigalaa , idhukuthaan ennai apdi paathigalaaa ?”  and the Director said "Hammered!".

Then I started, “H a m m e r e d...” This time there was more laughter and the college bell also joined with our guys..

(Later, I was told that he was scolding me as 'Hammered'. Ennai poochi maadhiri nasuki thooki podanumaam :P)

               

Director should have left the class with a satisfaction of shooting a comedy film (Oru oorla pattu nu oruthan irundhaanaam, avana paathu oore sirichudhhaam)  

  

I asked my enemy, "Why did you guys laugh like that?"  (class’la thoongum bodhu elupuravan enemy thaana? :P)

He said, "Dai Director already asked three guys, all of them spelt it incorrectly, he repeated the correct spelling many times and then asked you and you……………." :D

               

Anyway that wasn't my mistake... Why did he spell it when I was sleeping?

IMDb.com rates Vijay’s Sura as No.1 movie of the year 2010

After coming here and reading the title, 2 things might be going through your mind.  You might be reading the title again and again to make sure what you’ve read is correct or you might be thinking that this should be a fake post based on all the jokes you receive on Vijay,,,,, am sorry, Dr.Vijay, but this is not a fake post.

I’m a regular visitor of IMDb site, yesterday I was browsing through the site to find which all movies made a mark in the year 2010 and was surprisingly took by Sura (2010) popping up in the first place. But it was no surprise when I cleared my eyes which were filled with joyful tears seeing a Tamil movie being rated World’s No.1 movie of the year 2010 by the World’s No.1 Internet Movie Database site, yes guys, Dr.Vijay’s block buster Sura has been rated as the No.1 bottom rated “2010s” title by IMDb voters. LOL ;) Even to be the best in the worst, it needs some special ingredients, right?

Despite of all the condemnation which has been evolved around Dr.Vijay, he has been with a steady mind progressing towards this goal and finally has achieved this feat with his 50^th movie. Perfectly executed and hats off to Dr.Vijay, he has answered all critics and jokes done on him. For people who are still laughing and joking at him I just want to tell you that he is following a famous Tamil movie dialogue which says that “You can always take a wrong way but you should make sure that the place you reach is a temple”, so stop joking on him and take a oath that you won’t forward anymore Dr.Vijay jokes!! :P

Many people will be wondering and asking themselves “How did Vettaikaran (2009), Kuruvi (2008) and all other previous movies of him did not achieve this feat?”. My friend, even I’m puzzled but those should have been the stepping stones for Sura’s greatest success! His secret ingredients! I even wish that Dr.Vijay’s movies are made to release on a particular day of every year so that we can celebrate India’s Hallowe'en day.  :P

This achievement should answer all the questions which people have of why, why on earth does Dr.Vijay choose scenes like when his car accelerator fails, he gets the accelerator wire in his mouth and pulls his way to win the championship with a car which no one will be accepting even if it is given for free, also why he chooses great roles especially when he acted as 12^th standard student in Vettaikaran.  :P All for one noble cause, he wanted a Tamil film to been seen at world’s stage and now we have it. What a great man. Long live Dr.Vijay, we are eagerly waiting for Kavalan (2011) which should be breaking all records.

On a personal note, I like to thank Dr.Vijay and add one more credit to this breath taking feat that this event has made me to start writing blogs.  Finally something worthy!!!  ;)
